Delivering this recent webinar was an enriching experience that allowed me to engage with coordinators on a vital aspect of the Diploma Programme. The focus on effective strategies for analysing results and determining which subjects and components are worth remarking (or EURs) was particularly well-received. You can see the slides from the session here:
Key Takeaways
We discussed the importance of having a structured plan in place for results day, ensuring that coordinators are prepared with data analysis foundations in spreadsheets, ready to plug in the data released by IB to effectively support students who might not have reached the goals they hoped for. We discussed various methods for analysing results, including identifying trends and areas of concern.

A portion of the webinar was dedicated to discussing the criteria for deciding which subjects and components warrant a remark. I shared five considerations before requesting a remark of IB assessments: advising against remarking Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE) due to their subjective nature and tight grade boundaries, unless it's crucial for university admission; considering the difference between subjective and objective subjects, noting that more subjective subjects have a higher tolerance for interpretation in marking; guidelines on when to consider a remark based on how close the student is to the next grade boundary, noting that the chances of a grade going down are sometimes higher than going up; financial considerations and finally; how to avoid pride or injustice from driving emotional decisions about something that is often a strategy of probabilities.
Finally, the template for plugging in your results data is here. Please feel free to make your own copy of this, adapt if desired, and use.
